About Shannon Cheung, Msw (They/She)

Welcome! I'm a social science researcher with a strong background in qualitative research methods (focus groups, semi-structured interviews, arts-based methods) and in quantitative research methods (survey research, multivariate regression, generalized linear modeling, structural equation modeling). My goal in doing research is to guide people in making data-driven decisions that ultimately lead to making the world a safer place for marginalized groups of people.Generally my research interests cover the intersections of technology and three substantive areas: child/adolescent development, violence/abuse, and community-building. In particular, I'm driven by my interest in the fast-growing gaming/eSports industry and youths' experiences playing games and engaging in gaming communities. I'm also passionate about understanding youths' experiences with dating violence mediated by information and communication technologies (ICTs).
