Using this compression test and video analysis technique, I characterized the viscoelasticity of bacteria granules collected from both standard and experimental water treatment systems, to help understand the stress they can sustain in a treatment system while still remaining effective. I also created computer model of a granule to demonstrate the viscoelastic property of the granules in contrast to an elastic property via COMSOL Multiphysics. -

I both made layer-by-layer films for study and modeled the release kinetics of these films. I also trained to work in a sterile laboratory environment for the purpose of assisting in cultivating human bone cells for study within the lab.
