I am a seasoned attorney with nearly 20 years of experience in general business litigation and counseling. Prior to founding Mangum Ririe LLP, I practiced with the international law firms Gibson, Dunn & Crutcher LLP and Sidley Austin LLP, where I represented plaintiffs and defendants in high-stakes business litigation. I have particular expertise in intellectual property law, including litigating patent infringement lawsuits, preparing formal patent opinions (including freedom-to-operate and validity opinions), prosecuting patents, and counseling clientele on diverse IP issues. Highlights of my career include my representation of Nippon Steel in a complex multi-jurisdictional international patent and trade secret dispute with a rival steelmaker that resulted in a public apology and $248 million settlement in favor of Nippon Steel. I was a member of the trial team that secured a $184 million jury verdict for Cornell University for infringement of its pioneering patent for out-of-order instruction issuance in microprocessors and was a member of the trial team that successfully defended T-Mobile against a non-practicing patent-licensing entity, resulting in a complete jury verdict of non-infringement and invalidity. I am a member of the California Bar and am admitted to practice before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and the U.S. District Courts for the Northern, Central, Southern, and Eastern Districts of California and the Eastern District of Texas. I have represented clients before the International Trade Commission and the Patent Trial and Appeal Board at the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. I also have extensive experience coordinating with co-counsel in Europe, China, and Japan in the context of multi-jurisdictional disputes.In my free time, I enjoy coaching the mock trial team at my local middle school.
