I led and worked on several projects related to efficiency within the department. I edited a group of documents so they could be viewed and used by the company's distributorships, and an Excel sheet as well. These each involved part numbering, and suffixes. I also designed a plugin for SAP that checked for common mistakes in the special field for marking and tagging products. These projects ultimately save time for the people in the Technical Service department as these projects reduce communication time, and time spent correcting errors.

This internship involved multiple projects involving resource allocation, time management, and quality. I digitalized old documents (some as old as the 80's) related to manufacturing parts for the plastics department. This project needed to get done within the company, but would take too much time away from a regular worker. I did several time studies to search for areas where processes could be improved to reduce time required to produce, and have expected number of parts more accurately match the number of parts actually made. I also worked on setting up Electro Polishing fittings and created new documentation to walk people through the process if the process needed to be completed again. I also worked on utilizing the tool life tracking function on a group of machines. This is important because it lets the machine tell the operator when a tool needs to be replaced. This makes keeping track of when to remove tools easier for the operator, and removes much variability in the amount of damage a tool will ever take and thus improving quality, and reducing scrap. Finally, I modified a box used for a visual gage, allowing the box to be 3D printed from plastic rather than machined from metal. This was important for the High Purity Group which was incurring extreme variability in the number of parts ordered. The visual gage helps the temporary employees improve their consistency in the plant when production orders are at a higher amount. These workers need to be able to see what visual defects there are to prevent bad parts from reaching the consumer, and due to variability in the amount of orders, these gages need to be able to be produced quickly and cheaply when needed.

I worked in the Electronics Department at Lincoln Electric for a summer. The work focused on using older machines that weren't fully automated to attach larger pieces to circuit boards. I received valuable experience in working inside of a factory from a non-engineering perspective.
