Viral Ecology And Informatics Lab (Veil) Undergraduate Researcher
CurrentBradyrhizobium is a nitrogen-fixing bacteria that plays a fundamental role in the nitrogen cycle by forming symbiotic nodules on the roots of leguminous plants, such as soybeans, and providing the host plant with a source of fixed nitrogen in exchange for a portion of its photosynthetic products. However, Bradyrhizobium lytic phages influence this mutualistic interaction that plays an important role in global nitrogen cycling and modern agriculture. Through the use of bioinformatics and genetic sequencing my research involves analyzing dsDNA genomes of isolated Bradyrhizobium lytic phages.
