I am an undergraduate at BYU studying chemical engineering, with a focus in biochemical engineering. I especially love bioprocess engineering, where I get to apply chemical engineering principles towards producing biologic products.I am currently taking process safety and deep learning courses, and am very excited to be working on a project that applies deep learning pose-recognition algorithms to process safety systems. The goal is to recognize hazardous human actions around process equipment in real time, and have the system respond appropriately.In my research, I use quantum computational chemistry and molecular dynamics to investigate the behavior of proteins with unnatural amino acids. My favorite parts of the research process are tackling projects that go out of my formally trained comfort zone, and working with colleagues with diverse backgrounds.Above all, my passion is to be the best husband and father I can be, and to use chemical engineering to make the world a better place.
