Potter County, Pennsylvania

I manage the 4-H Youth program for Potter County, Pennsylvania. This involves managing over twenty-five active volunteers by providing resources and training, communicating with over 180 members and their families, and recruiting new volunteers and members to join the program. On a local and regional level, I am responsible for collaborating with the local Fair Board and Livestock Committee to assist with the Potter County Fair at the beginning of August. I also organize the annual horse show, plan the annual Safety Day program for all 4th graders in the county, host summer events for youth, and address community needs through program offerings, scholarship opportunities, and event promotion. At the state level, I am a member of the Environmental Science, Shooting Sports, and Camping working group, where I assist in creating new state-level curriculum for youth, training new volunteers on safe shooting sports practices, and serve as an Assistant Director for Northwinds 4-H Camp.

In this role, I collaborated with two co-counselors to mentor, lead, and facilitate activities and experiences for 14 8th grade students during a 2-week residential summer program. During this time, I was also facilitating experiential climbing sessions for campers age 9-16.

The main aspect of my job was teaching K-5 students in after-school enrichment programs, including classes on chess, electricity, science, drama, nature, and art. I also designed, formatted, and implemented inquiry-based curriculum for K-8 students on topics such as survival skills, electricity, and the ocean.

In this role I co-led 12 day backcountry experiences for 8-9 diverse high school students in the North Cascades region. I taught experiential lessons on science, sustainability, social justice, and leadership in conjunction with outdoor skills, communication, and trail maintenance. As an instructor, I also mentored program interns and conversed with donors about the program on the final day of each session.

I facilitated three day experiential environmental education programs for 5th grade students in the North Cascades National Park. Lessons included abiotic and biotic factors, ecosystems and community, and natural and cultural history in connection to Next Generation Science Standards.

I facilitated and coordinated the Partner Networking Lunch, transported students, and created and analyzed the participant and partner surveys for the 2018 Northwest Youth Leadership Summit in Seattle. This position also allowed me to assist in coordinating and managing one of the Youth Leadership Ambassadors cohorts, recruit participants to Youth Leadership Adventures summer programs, and create informational packets for summer field instructors on facilitation, natural history, cultural history, and native flora and fauna.

Collaborated with Junior Camp Coordinator and Program Manager to create staffing rosters, mentor and manage staff, communicate between permanent and seasonal staff, and resolve conflicts within the workplace. I also created and oversaw the implementation of the STE(A)M afternoon programs for 200-250 campers and assisted with camp store sales, money management, and evening program facilitation. I continued to teach campers in this role, as the nature, adventure, and photography instructor.

In the spring and fall seasons (2017-2018) I worked as a challenge course facilitator for 3rd-8th grade students, focusing on communication, respect, teamwork, and personal goal management. During this time, I also taught nature and archery sessions.Served as seasonal summer staff (2015-2018), teaching STE(A)M, photography, and adventure curriculum to 4th-8th grade students. In this role, I also facilitated meals, campfires, and evening programs, managed photos, and mentored staff.
