As a Mechanical Systems Engineer at NorthStar, I help to develop tools and devices to safely handle radioactive material and am responsible for selecting components and materials to meet hazardous environmental needs. Often times our facility requires data on radiation exposure. I help move projects forward by performing calculations and simulations to determine shielding thickness and geometry as well as work flow. Some problems call for components under high stress or non-traditional loading. I am able to efficiently use finite element analysis to determine stresses and improve designs.
