In late 2019 I fell in love with plastics, circular economy innovation, and sustainable best practices. In 2020 I incorporated Maritime Reused Plastic Products - a business with a goal to recycle Nova Scotia plastic waste into 100% recycled plastic interior furniture and household goods. Working with engineers at Saint Mary's University & Dalhousie University, trade secrets were developed and I created the first recycled plastic business of its kind in Canada. In December 2021, Reused Plastic merged with ReCircle, a Nova Scotia start-up with a similar mission to recycle plastic waste. The merger allowed ReCircle to develop 100% recycled furniture and household goods at an equivalent price as virgin/new plastic products. In 2022, I joined one of the world's leading sustainability organizations to further eliminate the idea of waste through collecting, recycling, and recreating waste into circular economy products - TerraCycle. In 2024, I joined a revolutionary startup that turns crustacean shells into a bio-based non-toxic additive called chitin nanocrystals (CNC). Our additive helps epoxy manufacturers, pulp and paper manufacturers, and film packaging manufacturers achieve drastically increased strength, increased resistance to water and oxygen, enhanced impact resistance, reduced weight, and increased product recyclability.Thank you for listening to my journey!
