Senior Network Support Engineer

Various Location Across London

Mobile engineer for various locations across 3 London boroughs, this role offers unique challenges. Working in places with no handover and minimal documentation you are required to adapt and learn very quickly and respond to situations with little to work with. This requires quick and decisive action and a good knowledge of many technologies. In addition to my regular role I receive escalations of more complex problems and either advice or take ownership of them.

Desktop Support Engineer For London And Africa (Contract)

London

Supporting foundation members in our London and Africa offices and also people from around the world when they come to visit. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation comes with locational challenges where Lync, conference calls and video conferences are not just a "nice to have" but an essential part of the day-to-day business. After completing the initial contract and an extension - plus several attempts to keep me - I feel that it is right to move on and find a new challenge.

Apr 2014 - Oct 2014

Senior Network Support Engineer

London

I started by working within one school in Lambeth as an onsite engineer trying to resolve some major and long-standing issues there. After a very short while all these issues were resolved and the school became a much easier place to work. Seeking new challenges I was moved to a mobile role supporting 11 schools which offered a wider range of issues and a more challenging working environment. After 5 months in this role and once again seeking a more challenging role, I was moved to Operations Manager in charge of 6 schools on a secondment to really stretch me. Alongside all of these roles I was instrumental in delivering several small projects to managers and senior management and feel that the work carried out has been beneficial for the company in many ways.I have now been move again as Operations Manager for a contract with 43 schools and hope to have a significant impact in this new and challenging role. Now that the secondment has come to an end, I am now happily relocated in a school in Newham where I have made a huge impact of the service and also the customer perception of RM

Mar 2012 - Dec 2013

Operations Manager

Various Locations

Initially seconded to help support an existing Operations Manager and to develop my skills in a new way, this 3 month secondment was extended twice. After this short secondment in Lambeth I was then moved to a struggling area as additional support in Newham where I spent a further 6 months. Once the work in Newham was completed, I was given my own contract in Barking and Dagenham to finish my secondment. In this role I was line manager to 5 staff and oversaw 40+ primary schools. When my secondment finally came to an end, I was offered a permanent role as Operations manager but I decided to return to desktop support. The experience I received in this role and the training I undertook was invaluable and given me a wider understanding of business as a whole.

Mar 2012 - Apr 2013

Voluntary Pc Support And Web Developer

Prodigal Solutions

The last year has allowed me to build and maintain websites for local charities and churches. As these small organisations have little money, doing these projects for free is a great way to give something back. Starting this venture meant learning several new technologies but this just added to the enjoyment as building on knowledge is always a good thing.

Aug 2009 - Feb 2011

Senior Desktop Support Analyst

An experienced Senior Desktop Support Analyst with 1st line, 2nd line and some 3rd line support. Web application development. Within our small team we were responsible for 600 user within the main buying head office. This was mainly a Microsoft environment but included 8 mac users and covered a very wide range of application. I was in charge of all patch room management and some basic Citrix fault finding. There was a PDA user base of 150 and our team was responsible for all Palm Treos and Blackberry setup and configuration. Working at the head office, our roles often meant working under pressure and resolving “Break – Fix” problems while high level board meetings were in progress. Over almost 12 years I have gained a high level of knowledge and competence through dealing with all types of software and hardware calls. Since the business is a forward thinking one, we have been encouraged to explore and develop new ways to increase productivity and to speed up and proactively eliminate calls. This freedom enabled personal development in new technologies such as LDAP and ASP and experimentation in more established areas like VB Script and SQL. During my time with House of Fraser I have developed several company-wide applications.

Aug 1997 - Jul 2009

Application Developer

During my time at House of Fraser I was tasked to design and build several web based aplications for different departments within the company. These applications were normally company wide and had a big impact on the business. The main applications are listed below with many other smaller ones:Training Course Management:The training department needed an easy way to present all training courses to the business and allow people to book themselves onto the courses, so a full project plan was created and put out to tender to three external companies. Only one company came back with a quote: this was between £80,000 and £100,000. It was deemed too expensive for the company so the project was opened internally for anyone willing to take it on. I was the only person to show an interest and it was given to me. Four months later the pilot of the system was launched and 2 months after that, the full system was finished and signed off. Minor developments were made on the system over the next 6 months and it was used for over 6 years. Technologies used in this project were ASP with VB Script, LDAP queries, SQL database with an Intranet front end.Change Control System:To build a workflow application that would inform a dynamically defined group of people about impending changes to systems that could impact the business. This application needed to allow people to accept or reject the change control and/or make comments about it. An audit trail and reporting system was needed along with a method to over rule or force change control through by a limited number of people. Once the change control was fully approved, the control would pass itself to the implementation team for completion. Once the project was completed and rolled out, it quickly became one of the most used web applications in the business and is now heavily used and relied upon. Technologies used in this system were ASP with VB Script, SQL database LDAP / GC queries with an Intranet front end.
