About Spiros Lenis

Early in my career, I have had a passion for the safety and wellbeing of my coworkers. I genuinely consider myself lucky that I had the opportunity to find a field that allows me to express that passion for helping everyone, workers and organizations alike. I am a safety geek who helps organizations build their system around the risks and challenges faced with getting work done, following evidence-based practices. I am an advocate for the continued development and permeation of the safety sciences within our industry and understand that to do safety better, we need to do safety differently. As an interdisciplinary field, we cannot rely on the outdated idea that compliance is all we need to make work safe. Instead, we need to understand that within these complex socio-technical systems, humans are part of the solution, not the problem. With safety experience throughout a multitude of industries, construction, warehouse and logistics, pre-hospital care, film, aviation and marine, I have come to understand that there is a commonality in the challenges faced across industry and that tackling these challenges requires system driven thinking. When not solving problems at work, you can find my nose in a book, furthering my skills and education in systems theory, human factors, emergent technologies, resilience engineering, and the safety sciences.
