Steve started working with the RPM Hire Team in June 2020. After a 25 year career as a professional driver in the Australian Supercars Championship alongside managing his own Motor Racing services business Steve Richards Motorsport Pty Ltd, Steve joined the RPM Hire team to bring along the skills and expertise he developed from the highly competitive Motorsport Industry and see how it could be incorporated within the RPM Hire business framework.In late 2019 Steve moved into a Relationhip Management position within the Team 18 Supercars team, providing commercial sponsorship experience to assist the team reach its budget requirements in growing from a single car team into a two car Supercars Team and provide experience across the management structure to lift the performance of the team while on an acute growth period.With the onset of the COVID 19 pandemic and the forced postponement of the Supercars Championship, this position was made redundant in mid April.In 2019, Steve Richards was also driving in the Porsche PAYCE Carrera Cup Australia Championship and was the Pirtek Endurance Cup driver for Team 18, Irwin Racing in the three Supercars Endurance races. He previously raced in the V8 Supercar series for Triple Eight Race Engineering and Ford Performance Racing.He is the son of seven-time Bathurst 1000 winner Jim Richards and is a five-time Bathurst 1000 winner himself, having won the event in 1998, 1999, 2013, 2015 and 2018. On 4 October 1998, Steven finished second, only two seconds behind dad Jim in the AMP Bathurst 1000 run for Super Touring Cars, and two months later on 15 November he won the FAI 1000 for V8 Supercars with Jason Bright. He is one of only four drivers to win Bathurst in both a Ford and a Holden. Richards was also the winner of the inaugural Bathurst 24 hour race in 2002 driving a Holden Monaro for Garry Rogers Motorsport. Richards won the race alongside Garth Tander, Cameron McConville and Nathan Perry. Driving the same car in the 2003 race, the same quartet finished in second place, less than a second behind their team mates Greg Murphy, Todd Kelly, Jason Bright, and Peter Brock. It was Brock who his father Jim had partnered to win the first three of his seven Bathurst 1000 wins, in 1978, 1979 and 1980. Nicknamed Richo, he has previously raced for Jack Daniel’s Racing, Ford Tickford Racing, and Gibson Motor Sport in V8 Supercars, as well as driving V8's, Super Tourer's, AUSCAR for Garry Rogers. Thanks to his successes in both Ford and Holden, Richards remains popular among fans of both brands.
