In addition to building out a state of the art shop complete with 5-axis machining, laser processing and material compounding, I also developed a novel robotic additive manufacturing platform from the ground up to enable monolithic fabrication of devices that would have previously been difficult to fabricate.

I developed the original Bend Labs soft sensor technology while working nights and weekends in a small rented lab space while working two other jobs. I cofounded Bend Labs in 2013 and we worked together to develop and scale the technology, create a smart knee brace and VR glove, raise substantial investment capital and generate considerable revenue. In 2018, I made a synergistic transition to a new role at Oculus Research (now Meta Reality Labs Research) to continue my work on developing VR input technologies. I authored the original patents and worked with our brilliant team to turn my original clunky prototype into the product you can purchase today. Bend Labs was acquired by Nitto Denko in 2022 and they are still hard at work delivering world class soft sensing solutions. -

I developed the first staple based tendon fixation prototypes and am excited to see that this concept has evolved into the tendon fixation system they have commercialized and are selling today. I had the good fortune of working with a number of successful entrepreneurs from whom I learned an immense amount. Prior to leaving, I led a successful in vitro and in vivo study and wrote an SBIR grant that was funded. -
