This was followed by the selection and coding of a cross platform thin client javascript UI, leveraging bootstrap and backbone.js.Role Included:♦ Requirements analysis and high level goals♦ Architecture of the full stack framework♦ Vetting, evangelism of tech choices♦ Design of API and framework♦ Coding of cross cutting pieces including communications, config, security, data access and caching♦ Jenkins CI, unit, integration testing♦ Git oversight♦ Puppet module coding♦ Nginx config and Lua script -
Software Development EngineerMicrosoft Mar 2001 - Dec 2006Redmond, Washington, UsI was a Software Development Engineer (SDE) in the Digital Media Division of Windows working on player releases from Windows XP to early Windows 7. I worked on cloud based services to support the Windows Media player, before it was called cloud. These web services included media library and media recognition services that were built at Windows client scale. The media recognition services included CD, DVD and audio files, using TOC identifiers, fingerprints and text matching algorithms, many of which were patented. The services also included automated processing of a large amount of user feedback data, which was used to improve the quality of the music metadata- an early attempt at crowd sourcing. Some of the algorithms were built in collaboration with Microsoft Research. In addition I worked on music, video and podcast metadata catalogs in support of the the Windows Media player, MSN Music and Zune. I worked with data feeds from all 5 major music labels and All Music Guide to create a unified music guide experience for Microsoft. I lead the early creation of a podcast guide at Microsoft including web crawling of RSS feeds, indexing and processing of guide data. -
