I started as a consultant to the hospice which has since evolved into a part-time role. I enjoy being back with a small non-profit where we can make a decision on Friday and put it into action the following Monday. This flexibility enables me to test the power of social media platforms to engage and retain donors while we format a fundraising enterprise designed to replace me.

These people are doing fantastic work providing low-income people with professional counselling when they otherwise could not get access to such services. Mostly professional counselling is the domain of the middle and wealthier classes. I can not applaud the work they are doing more loudly. My role here was to restructure and provide business development support for a year.

This was a one-year contract position. I focused on establishing sustainable cash flow derived from philanthropic fundraising programmes focused on individuals. I also gathered a lot of information for my research on non-profit fundraising effectiveness.

This was about liaising with every SPCA across the country and together enhancing the brand and enthusing more New Zealanders to financially support the work of this great organisation. I resigned when it became obvious that I could do no more within a federated model as the SPCA was at the time. Under the remarkable leadership of its then CEO, Ric Odom, two years later the RNZSPCA finally united under one brand meaning that a number of my initiatives could then be implemented.

As part of a small team of 3, I was leading the development and implementation of a fundraising strategy. These people rock. Domestic abuse is a humungus problem in New Zealand (as it is in many parts of the world) and many people bury their heads in the sand over it. Not these people. They are taking it on full steam ahead and making wonderful progress. In fact lives are being saved. Find out who they are and give them your money.

This role headed up the fundraising department working closely with marketing. I reversed the downward trend of philanthropic donations that was happening before I arrived.

This was a fund development role focused on significant gifts that help Oxfam achieve it's mission of introducing the essentials needed to sustain freedom from poverty and injustice in the developing world. The stand out result of that work was my creation of a fundraising initiative I called "The Oxfam100" which was about finding 100 New Zealanders who would raise the bar in the fight against poverty in the developing world. It continues today as a key part of the Oxfam New Zealand fundraising mix.

I cut my teeth in the non-profit sector at CBA. I was the second staff member so we had great flexibility to put new ideas to work.

Initially I managed a national team of GP reps followed by managing a team of similar size focused on retail pharmacy. I worked over this time through several mergers from Roussel who then merged to become Hoechst Marion Roussell and then merged again to become Aventis. And have subsequently become Sanofi.

Developed the business from scratch. Sold it as a going concern.
