Spruce Design is an independent interior design studio based in Marylebone, Central London. Since 2015 we have also collaborated with local practice Gaby Higgs Architects.  Our work ranges from small refurbishments to large projects for luxury apartment blocks. We also have been involved in extending interior to exterior design, with bespoke gardens & patios functioning as outdoor rooms.  Whilst I have focused on residential projects, my design ambition is to prioritise accessibility for all building typologies - homes, shops, hotels & restaurants.  In 2013 I studied Interior Design at Central St Martins, followed by courses at Chelsea College of Art & the British Academy of Interior Design. Professional services include space planning, estimating & project management. Design has always been a passion, which started from a career as a hair stylist in South Africa, later relocating to Europe. When the opportunity arose, I joined Cunard Line, working in the onboard salon of a cruise ship. I travelled the world from North Pole to the Caribbean & everything in between. These journeys made me increasingly aware of the need for better accessibility in transportation settings – stations, airports & aircraft cabins.  Back in Cape Town, I became a session stylist working on local and international fashion shows, publications & TV Commercials. With Velocity Films, TV Production Company in Johannesburg I worked as a production coordinator of TV commercials.  Closely linked to my previous career as a session stylist, I learnt many new skills, attending client & agency briefings to working alongside my Producer & Director in planning, sourcing and booking crews to the most exciting bit, finally being on set managing the shoot days & crew.  In 2001 I joined Michaeljohn as a session stylist in London.  I was very fortunate to work on some fantastic shoots, with some of the UK's best photographers, tending the tresses of some very famous clients during their regular visits to London.  Lips sealed for now! I moved to Brighton & in 2006 opened Spruce, which was Brighton's first & only Men's Grooming Salon. I was approached by Bumble & Bumble to become their sole appointed salon.  During this time, I wrote a monthly grooming page for Absolute Brighton & Absolute London. My design journey has taken me across many countries and cultures, meeting inspiring people, absorbing diverse histories, architecture, experiences & ideas. All have contributed to my personal design philosophy which is for beautiful, functional, sustainable & inclusive places for people.
