TGen’s Center for BioIntelligenceMISSION: To re-engineer how we classify complex diseases and thereby provide more detailed and accurate ways to study, understand, differentiate and manage complex medical conditions.The Center for BioIntelligence was formed to develop tools, resources, strategies, and integrated healthcare driven solutions that specifically address this fundamental epistemological problem in how we study and manage disease. Specifically, scientists conducting translational research are greatly hindered by the quantity and quality of clinical data they can access, which is usually limited to very superficial descriptors to classify heterogeneous groups of diseases into a single disease category. This ambiguous disease classification results in fallacious assumptions that undermine the design of translational research studies aimed at discovery and greatly reduces the efficiency and effectiveness of clinical research aimed at advancing new treatments. We built the Pharmaceutical Genomics Division at TGen with a focus on developing and applying novel functional genomics methods and high-throughput technologies to identify areas in the human genome that may be vulnerable to drug targets. These unique targets will then be advanced to develop the next generation of molecular medicines. Additionally, new cellular pharmacogenomic strategies have been developed at TGen to discover genes that regulate drug response. These discoveries will be advanced as biomarkers to predict clinical drug response to enable personalized medicine, in other words, getting the right drug to the right patient at the right time.
