We founded our patent law firm that specializes in the life sciences and related EE/software (mainly biotech & medical devices) in 2003 and have had several major universities as clients, as well as individual inventors, privately-held corporations, and small start-ups from all over the world. We also serve as US foreign associates for a number of other organizations and institutions in the U.K, Canada, Australia, South-east Asia, India, and China.

I have a particular goal of bringing anthropology speakers to US public schools.In January 2014, I took a trip to an archaeological dig in Saudi Arabia. I was accompanied by Mark Jordan, a fellow Leakey Trustee. We helped a little with excavating and surveying the surrounding area to identify stone tools used by early man during the past few hundred thousand years or so.In September 2012, some of the Leakey Trustees and spouses visited Kenya, and we were treated to visits to several archaeological sites and the Kenya National Museum.

I taught "Comparative Physiology" in the Summer sessions of 2022 and 2023 and "Endocrinology" for Fall 2021 and 2022 semesters and then the same for the CSUEB Pre-professional Health Academic Program (PHAP) in Spring 2022. In Fall 2022 I taught undergraduate "Cell and Molecular Biology". I also took part in 'mock interviews' with pre-med/dental students as part of the PHAP course. In Winter 2014 I taught the "Introduction to Biology"​ undergraduate course for non-Biology majors at California State University East Bay. I taught the same course this Spring 2015 quarter. In Spring 2013 I taught two courses: "Introduction to Animal Biology"​ (undergraduate) and "Advanced Topics in Biochemistry: Receptors" (graduate).

Scottish Bioenergy Ventures Ltd (DBA ScotBio) specializes in commercial production of the high value natural blue pigment C-phycocyanin (food, analytical and medical grade) from cyanobacteria. Specifically, ScotBio specialises in the development of photobioreactor systems and downstream processing methods for the commercially relevant cyanobacteria Arthrospira platensis (Spirulina). ScotBio produces biochemicals used in the medical research, nutrition, and pharmaceutical sectors, and have recently broken through critical technical and scaling barriers for the production of analytical grade C-phycocyanin (C-PC), a high-value pigment-protein (phycobiliprotein). I am still an industrial advisor on intellectual property.

At Incyte I wrote backgrounds for newly-discovered EST sequences and trained as a patent agent. I also data-mined the human and on-human EST databases to identify novel expressed sequences having tissue- and/or developmental-specificity; these included ribosomal proteins as well as highly-charged and/or hydrophobic proteins with unknown function (which I called 'goo proteins'). I also identified many non-coding RNAs, which, since 1991, I had recognized as having important regulatory function. Some of the results were later presented at scientific or clinical meetings and conferences and which also led to publications collaborating with other Incyte scientists. As a Registered Patent Agent I became familiar with Patent Office procedures as well as filing International Patent applications.
