Faculty Co-Lead and founder of the Digital Initiatives Group (DIGI) at I-TECH, the global health informatics center at University of Washington. We envision a world where health workers, clients, and communities are empowered with information that improves the quality, equity, and efficiency of health care services. DIGI focuses on the maturing and use of digital health global goods at both the domain level and in country-level implementations supporting the health goals of country governments. DIGI values user-centered design and delivery of health information tools and platforms within a comprehensive package of services to foster an enabling environment.DIGI is the steward of the OpenELIS Global global good codebase, and part of the leadership of OpenMRS, OpenHIE, and the OpenHIE Laboratory Information Systems Community of Practice. (LIS CoP).

Principal Investigator, Direct the strategy and technical implementation for global health informatics programs in resource constrained settings, focused on healthcare equity through national scale health informatics projects. Projects based in Mozambique, Kenya, Cote d'Ivoire, Haiti, Vietnam, and Namibia, with USG funders CDC and USAID under the PEPFAR program and Global Health Security.Projects focus on a national strategy for successful healthcare systems strengthening through the appropriate use of data. Develop national- and local-level health policies to pair with health technology solutions for improved care at the point of service, through surveillance, and program monitoring. Technical focus is on national and facility-level enterprise health (eHealth) architectures, development and implementation of health information systems (EMR, LIS, Pharmacy, LMIS, Aggregate Tools, Surveillance, etc), standards-based interoperability for health data exchange. More importantly, large parts of the programs are focused on building local capacity and sustainability by strengthening of knowledge and skills through the creation and strengthening of open source HIS communities, course curriculum development, conducting of workshops and courses, and development of mentoring programs. In addition, serve as clinical faculty teaching the Patient Centered Technologies (PCT) courses in the CIPCT Masters program, where we cover health behavior change theories, health IT policy and law for PCTs, and design-and-implementation strategies and processes for PCTs in clinical settings.

Serve as a member of the HSRC (IRB) dedicated to ethical treatment of human research subjects. We review and approve requests for research to be performed at the college, watching for potential ethical violations that may occur during research studies.
