Systems Engineer / Senior Nerd, responsible for delivering IT solutions to small and medium businesses, and residential clients.- Biggest client – Ngāti Whātua Ōrākei, with 6 sites in Auckland and more than 160 staff. Started as a migration project from one service provide to another along with ditching existing Exchange 2007 setup in favor of Office 365. Half a year later, I was responsible for managing their entire fleet of computers. Upgraded all computers to Windows 10 and Office 365/2016.- Several dozens of other small business clients with up to 10 employees. Mostly on a break/fix basis with various duties – on-premises and cloud hosted servers, networks, desktops, laptops. Also performed numerous Exchange / hosting providers to Office 365 migrations- Hundreds of residential customers – something new every day. Network and systems administrator responsible for management of a college campus network - Upgraded aging domain controllers, database and email servers from Server 2008 / Exchange 2007 SP3 to virtual Server 2012 R2 / SQL Server 2012 / Exchange 2013 SP1 environment (Hyper-V)- Redesigned VMware ESXi server farm. Performed upgrades of vSphere 4.1 to 5.0, 5.1, and 5.5- Performed migration of many servers from VMware vSphere 5.5 to Hyper-V 2012 R2 to allow using cheaper CIFS datastores instead of expensive Dell Equalogic SANs- Completed implementation of Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) for several college departments using Citrix VDI-in-a-Box 5.1- Standardized and reconfigured network switches, allowing for centralized authentication and management (HP Procurve, Netgear and Enterasys)- Created documentation and network diagrams, providing in-depth visibility into network traffic flow- Developed and implemented a Lite-Touch Deployment Strategy for Windows 7 and 8.1- Achieved 99.99% uptime and reliability for critical network infrastructure and servers- Improved user productivity by reducing time it takes to resolve helpdesk tickets and educating end users- Designed and implemented Remote Desktop Gateway solution, allowing employees to telecommute and have seamless experience even when they are away from the college- Cleaned up and reorganized Active Directory structure- Developed new Group Policies to configure security settings and define user and computer configuration based on user roles- Designed, upgraded, and improved operation of various servers.
