Gorgie City Farm is a free-entry community owned initiative that aims to educate inner city children and adults about farming, food production and the environment. We promote social inclusion by providing volunteering opportunities for all, working in particular with adults and young people marginalised by society. The Farm has existed almost 40 years, tucked in between a busy railway line and one of Edinburgh’s main arterial roads. Gorgie City Farm is a little piece of the countryside right in the heart of the City of Edinburgh.

Mercy Corps is an international development organization that helps people around the world survive and thrive after conflict, crisis and natural disaster. I was recruited to launch the Global Citizen Corps project in the UK. The project educated and inspired young people to take actions on issues of local and global concern. We engaged 4,000 young people in the first year through face to face training and the actions of GCC peer educators. I secured additional European funding to hold a Middle East Youth Festival in Scotland bring together youngsters from UK, USA, Jordan and Lebanon.
