As a Data Scientist at Innodatatics, Inc., I started as an Associate Data Scientist in Bangalore, India, from May 2019 to May 2020, and continued as a Data Scientist in Hyderabad, India, from May 2020 to the present. Evaluation of various external substrates for co-digestion by using a novel automatic methane potential test system (AMPTS)This work reviews methane potential determination of various substrates. The study focused on specific types of substrates like citrus peel, fibrous fine, seaweed, sludge from refinery and coffee grounds. The experiments were conducted by lab-scale digesters using an Automatic Methane Potential Test System (AMPTS). This analyser is based on an innovative method to measure the true methane potential. The novel test system was evaluated by comparing a conventional method (Biochemical Methane Potential, BMP-test) for determination of methane potential for substrates such as citrus peel and fibrous fine during co-digestion with municipal solid waste. The lab trials were carried out under mesophilic conditions during a period of approximately 30 days.Based on the results obtained, coffee grounds indicated a sufficient amount of methane. This fact may be of interest to WWTPs focusing on optimization of the current methane production. While seaweeds provide considerably less methane and thus require pre-treatment.
