Vice President - Research Product Manager

Current

Greater New York City Area

Product Manager for Morgan Stanley’s Research Authoring platform, which features channel-neutral content creation, cross-team collaboration, advanced chart integration, and advanced layout capabilities for flagship products. My role spans strategic planning, program management, vendor management, business analysis, and information architecture.

Jan 2015 - Present

Co-Founder & Chairman - Standards & Technology Committee

Current

Greater New York City Area

RIXML is an industry-wide standard for tagging investment research in XML. The RIXML schema is used broadly by sell-side firms, buy-side firms, market data vendors, research aggregators, and other technology vendors. RIXML is the leader in this space, and has been providing structure and richness to the process of investment research discovery for more than 20 years. The RIXML organization was founded by my team at DLJ and a similar team at T. Rowe Price. I led the organization while employed full-time by DLJ, Credit Suisse, J.P. Morgan, and Morgan Stanley. I’ve also been the principal architect and schema developer for the standard itself beginning with version 2.0 in 2002. I run the change management process and implement each production release. In 2006, I was a featured speaker at the SIA Technology Management Conference (now SIFMA Fintech Conference), where I discussed industry plans for RIXML and XBRL. In 2009, I won the inaugural RIXML Leadership Award, as voted by our member firms. In 2017, we launched a new schema for capturing interactions data to aid the marketplace in preparation for MiFID II regulations.

May 2000 - Present

Vice President - Research Lead For Client Portal Initiative

Greater New York City Area

J.P. Morgan began a strategic initiative in 2011 to build a best-in-class Single-Dealer Platform. Branded as J.P. Morgan Markets, the new platform would unify a suite of already successful verticals into one client-facing portal with a consistent visual design, user experience, and underlying information architecture. I was hired to lead the Research work stream and bring our top-ranked Research content on to the portal, alongside analytics, trade execution and post-trade services. We launched the portal to over 50,000 clients in 2013 and won the American Financial Technology Award in the category of Best Cross-Asset Trading Initiative. My role spanned strategic planning, program and project management, vendor management, business analysis, information architecture and design, and budget tracking and forecasting. The Research work stream covered the full spectrum of products - Commodities, Credit, Economics, Emerging Markets, Equities, Foreign Exchange, Index, Rates, Securitized Products, and Strategy. I made a critical impact on our success by applying my communication skills and influencing skills toward bringing senior analysts and business leaders together on a consistent design. I created high-quality requirements documentation, functional specifications, design wireframes, project plans, and budget plans.

Jan 2011 - Jul 2014

Vice President - Program Manager In Research It

Greater New York City Area

After Credit Suisse acquired DLJ, my previous employer, I focused on getting my team assimilated and acclimated properly to the new environment. I partnered with the combined management team to assess our application suite, with some components slated for integration and others for decommission. This was a difficult and delicate process from a people perspective, and helped me elevate my leadership skills substantially. By the time the dust from the acquisition settled, the ramp-up to the Global Analyst Research Settlement of 2003 captured the attention of the industry. Ten financial services firms, Credit Suisse included, settled with New York State Attorney General Eliot Spitzer, and the SEC, NYSE, and NASD, after investigations into undue influence of investment banking interests on securities research led to a series of enforcement actions. The imminent impact of the Settlement on our IT systems presented an opportunity for me to help the firm prepare and adapt. I ultimately designed the technology architecture governing interactions between our Banking environment, our Research environment, third-party independent research providers, our designated independent monitor, and a group of third-party data vendor partners. By virtue of this architecture, the firm was able to demonstrate compliance with the Settlement throughout its five-year lifespan and beyond. The Settlement, plus the on-going requirements of NYSE Rule 472 and NASD Rule 2711, led to a broader role for me. I became more of a project manager and business analyst for the overall Research IT program. Over a period of years, my team built a full “straight-through-publishing” platform to manage document workflow from authors to approvers to distribution channels with benefits to time-to-market, ease-of-use, and global coverage.

Nov 2000 - Dec 2010

Assistant Vice President - Web Development Manager

Assembled and led the firm’s first web development team. Built and launched the firm’s first web site, serving Research, Sales, and Marketing content to both institutional and hard-dollar clients and prospects. Followed that by building and managing over a dozen more web applications. Deployed infrastructure based on Netscape Enterprise Server, Oracle App Server, and Weblogic Tengah on a hybrid platform of Solaris, HP/UX, and Linux. Programming was done in Java, Perl, and Oracle PL/SQL. This position was with Donaldson Lufkin Jenrette (DLJ), which was acquired by Credit Suisse in 2000.

Apr 1995 - Oct 2000
