Simon is a Registered Australian and New Zealand Patent and Trade Mark Attorney having worked in the industry since 2007. Simon holds a Bachelor in Engineering (Computer) and a Master of Industrial Property. He is also a fellow of the Institute of Patent and Trade Mark Attorneys of Australia.Simon’s practice focuses on the preparation and prosecution of patent, design and trade mark applications, conducting oppositions, and advising on registrability, validity, infringement and litigation. Simon has been involved with the successful enforcement of various patent, design, copyright and trade mark matters for his clients, some of which progressed to the Australian Federal Court.Simon’s experience encompasses a wide range of ICT technologies including electrical and electronic systems, complex software systems, smart kitchen appliances, control systems, user interface technologies, embedded systems, distributed computer systems, quantum computing technologies, artificial intelligence technologies, blockchain technologies, digital signal processing, and various mechanical technologies such as hinges and latches for pool gates.Simon is one of Australia’s most experienced practitioners in relation to computer implemented inventions. With over 18 years of experience specialising in this complex IP field, he has extensive knowledge in this field. He has regularly written about this area of Australian patent law and was a regular contributor in relation to Australian case law developments to the Intellectual Property Forum journal published by Intellectual Property Society of Australia and New Zealand.Prior to entering the IP profession, Simon worked for an Australian company providing geology and mine planning software, supporting open pit and underground operations and exploration projects. Simon’s honours research involved the development and implementation of a new compiler for an Intel microprocessor.
