About Steve Glass

With a relentless focus on B2B marketing and sales, I use my technical and people skills to help companies understand and interact with new and established customers at every level of their buying cycle. The future of marketing and sales is account-based. A holistic approach is needed to interact with stakeholders within the customer organization and provide them with the amount and kind of information they need to support a decision. This requires smooth functioning of sales and marketing in unison to accomplish this, so much so that marketing and sales meld functionally in the eyes of the customer to form a revenue generation engine, and the customer sees people who are there to help them find answers. With over 30 years of marketing. product marketing and sales to inform me, and a background marketing and selling everything from capital equipment to security software, agtech to online training, I bring a broad understanding of real-world experiences to helping companies break out of their beliefs and adapt to the current reality. That reality is the result of unprecedented influences on our business culture that have come together in our time; the passing into retirement of the huge Baby Boomer generation that had such a massive influence on how we sell, a forced work from home experience that allowed many workers to evaluate their relationship with work, and the shared fear of a devastating virus that brought us together in many ways and forced us apart in others. These are not the same people we sold to ten years ago.Now is the time to abandon the old ways of selling. One on one relationships become many on many interactions. Abundance replaces fear. Open dialog supplants tricks and manipulation. It is not easy to change so many beliefs at once, and today many established companies are struggling with the process. The first step for any company is to recognize the need for change. We are here to help. My company Oinkodomeo has been leading the way for over ten years, showing the path to new ways of generating interest and closing business using the latest tools appropriate to each market space together with a deep understanding of market forces and how they can be utilized.Contact me through LinkedIn, and let’s talk about how your company will succeed going forward.

We are expecting regular incremental introductions in soil measurement capability to augment our proven soil moisture monitoring systems.

Dec 2020 - Present

Chief Marketing Technologist

Current

San Diego, Ca, Us

Next to helping clients find and close more business, my chief concern as marketing technologist is making sure that the client is doing as much as possible to increase business, given that nobody has unlimited budget and spare human resources. Some solutions might bring a lot of value, but they are very high maintenance, where others are best suited to clients with very mature and modern sales/marketing processes. I take a thoughtful intensive look at a client’s current market segments and try to establish why they are successful in those markets, in parallel with evaluating competitor pressure on current markets, and whether or not there is substantial business still to be won. I also evaluate alternative markets for fit to client, competitive pressure, customer pain and barriers to entry. When we have this information in place we put together a multi-stage plan for improving and streamlining every phase of the customer acquisition process. We then execute on the plans we have made. Oinkodomeo’s business goal is to leave every client more able to get new business affordably with their own organic resources, or some combination of employee and third party support.See the Oinkodomeo LinkedIn page or our website for more information.

Principal

Site Tuneups

Solopreneur web designer and developer. My experience with web design agencies convinced me that I could deliver a much better experience, and I proved it repeatedly. At Site Tuneups I made the difficult transition from table-based design to Cascading Style Sheets. transition from hand-coding HTML/CSS bespoke websites with custom backend systems in PHP/MySQL to modern CMS-based systems using WordPress. I loved hand-coding, but I came to understand that WordPress represented the best value for my Clients in price, versatility and sustainability.I learned more about selling services than I did from all of my previous experiences combined. My goal was to leave each Client with an effective and self-sustainable website. Every Site Tuneups project included:* A comprehensive Firm-fixed price proposal based on extensive needs analysis* A firm commitment to finish on time and under budget* Comprehensive custom training to suit Client needs and abilities, which included general website administration (CPanel), Adobe Contribute training or WordPress admin training as appropriate. The requirements of the job demanded broad knowledge of development tools and services, which included:* PSD to page design with Adobe Photoshop and Dreamweaver* Integration with many email Service Providers (ESP's) including Constant Contact, Cooler Email, Blue Hornet and AWeber* Custom Database design with MySQL* DOM programming with Javascript* Subject Matter Expert knowledge of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)As market conditions changed and the art and science of B2B selling started a dramatic revolution with Sales 2.0, I realized that stand-alone web design had to give way to comprehensive sales/marketing process improvement where web design was an important piece in the lead generation engine. This was my main reason for joining forces with Kathleen to start Oinkodomeo.

Jan 2003 - Dec 2012

Marketing Manager

San Diego, California, Us

I worked with an outsource web design company and database developer to completely rebuild totaltraining.com. This project integrated a bespoke website with a Microsoft Great Plains Enterprise ERP system. I developed comprehensive requirements (including architecture and function), project plans and budgets for the project and was the principle Project Manager.Leveraging the completed website, I instituted an aggressive inbound marketing program, turning over a stale database grounded on purchased lists, then using opt-in marketing to build the base organically to over 30,000 subscribers I migrated message style from simple text popular at the time to full-color HTML newsletters with low opt-out rates. I designed newsletter headers, coded HTML emails and wrote the bulk of the copy. Click-through rates ran regularly at around 15% with rates occasionally approaching 50%.Total Training marketed video training packages focused on the Adobe line of creative products, which it sold primarily through an inside sales team. Recognizing that our target audience was very knowledgeable, I designed and delivered product training programs to the Inside Sales Team for each Adobe-based training product we sold, including, Photoshop, Illustrator, Premiere, After Effects, GoLive and LiveMotion (this was during the time of the Macromedia acquisition by Adobe). To spread the market reach, I researched trade shows serving niche markets and organized an effective and easy to use booth design to exhibit at these shows with minimal cost and personnel time. We also exhibited as an Adobe Partner at the National Association of Broadcasters (NAB) yearly show and several other premiere industry-related shows.

Feb 2001 - Oct 2002

Marketing Manager

ATCOM/Info was acquired by CAIS Internet 7 weeks after I started, and was re-branded as CAIS Internet. Our target market shifted overnight from hotel properties to commercial multi-dwelling units. The position had three direct reports in graphics/web development, marketing coordination and sales engineering. My team and I completely renovated the company mix in 3-4 months time. I wrote the majority of the new copy, oversaw the re-design of the website and the entire collateral mix, re-organized our trade show calendar and hired a new public relations firm. Conducted comprehensive group and one on one sales training sessions for new market and show orientation.

Jul 1999 - Jan 2000

Contracts And Customer Service Manager

Irt Corporation

With a staff of three Contracts Administrators, oversaw contractual and customer service obligations for both government and commercial contracts. I grew the department in two ways; better financial oversight of projects, and stronger customer service outreach to our clients. Representatives were encouraged to take the initiative in acting on behalf of the Client's best interests. We were a highly efficient and high-morale organization within the company.

May 1991 - Apr 1992

Product Marketing Manager

Irt Corporation

Took over product marketing responsibilities for a very hi-tech line of automated X-ray inspections systems for high-speed electronic assembly lines. Built/rebuilt bills of materials and established book cost baselines for all products. Sponsored value-engineering initiatives and standard design practice programs. Authored multiple six-figure proposals, usually including detailed item by item responses for government and commercial bids. Acted as Sales Engineer in support of outside representatives, managed multiple sales calls and presentations as technical expert. This all really means that I was instrumental in taking systems that were essentially repeats of one-off designs and turning them into standard products with the help of a supportive engineering management, and ensuring that the company did not commit to projects beyond our scope.

Aug 1986 - May 1991

Lead Software Engineer

Irt Corporation

Came on board as lead software engineer because of my skills in low-level database design and digital communications. Active in the development of neural-based systems for "teaching" our products how to inspect and recognize defects. Put in charge of eleven-person engineering team during critical delivery period. Transitioned to Marketing when the opportunity arose.

Aug 1985 - Aug 1986

Lead Software Engineer

Us

Software engineer specializing in custom database development for Military systems. This is where I learned the value of detailed performance requirements, careful design and thorough documentation, as well as configuration management and validation.
