    Ceo
    Acrossworld Communications, Inc. 1998 - 2004
AcrossWorld Communications, Inc. was a Silicon Valley start up which got caught in the Internet bubble and failed to raise the second round of institutional funding. Like all true startups it was way ahead of its time planning to build a global girdle for voice-data-video communication connecting the world. The startup did not succeed in raising the second round but its business idea is now being implemented by many carriers. Maybe it served its purpose of demonstrating the business case for the big idea which was almost unthinkable in 1998 like software defined networks.

One of my roles was as coordinator of the India Task Force. My last assignment was as NSF Visiting Scholar, Educational Object Economy (EOE), Apple Advanced Technology Group, working with Jim Spohrer, where I focused on curriculum research and course development using open learning objects in education worldwide. EOE led to the creation of MERLOT and was a major influence on open content movement led by Mike Smith during his tenure at Hewlett Foundation.I initiated the India Healthcare Project—Use of Mobile Handheld Computers for Rural Health, Rajasthan—began in as a collaborative project between the Government of India.I continue to be a compulsive Apple evangelist and deeply interested in its VITAL, OpenDoc architectures and the seminal work in human interface design for which Apple is known.
