I have worked on different group projects such as designing and manufacturing an automated warehouse as well as produce a simulation of a industrial state of the art greenhouse. These tasks have taught me valuable skills such as being able to co-ordinate tasks with different group members and delegating roles that best suit each individual’s skill set. This has also taught me the importance of being thorough when following the V-Model when progressing through a project. I have worked on placement as an Intern Systems and Test Engineer at Thales UK in the Maritime Mission Systems (MMS) unit. This has given me a large amount of experience of working in industry integrating and testing the software and hardware of complex sonar technology. As this technology is used on mine hunting missions for different customers, my role was critical in ensuring that there would be no errors that could risk the users. I gained vital experience in collecting, processing and analysing angular data from the system using equipment such as Oscilloscopes and Angle Position Indicators to ensure that the system requirements have been sufficiently met. To work in an engineering team of experts in their field was massively beneficial for me too as I was able to be exposed to how industrial team meetings were carried out and what information was passed during this time. l have also gained valuable experience for my communication, time management and adaptability through an online weekly football show on The Redmen TV (who has 394K Twitter followers) that I have produced, edited, written and hosted. My communication has improved due to the need be clear, precise and engaging whenever I introduce a topic or insert my opinion. I’ve also had to meet strict weekly deadlines with recording and editing times to ensure that the show can be uploaded on time with the schedule that has been set.
