My career has been focused on simplifying seemingly complex problems and finding workable solutions that deliver results. Not entirely coincidentally, a large part of my career has been in China.Some of the highlights of that career are:1. Setting up a cloud-based ad delivery system in China in the early days of cloud computing and bringing over 200 broadcasters and 10 clients on board in the first 2 years, before a successful exit. This involved dealing with government run broadcasters, navigating their bureaucracy and getting them on board with a new technology that in those days, was poorly understood and seen as "downloading stuff from the internet".2. Advising an overly diversified ad network/ SAAS platform / performance marketing agency on a path of strategic divestment that has led to them surviving and thriving past the internecine wars of the digital marketplace3. Running a consultancy that, among others:a) Identified a core market reality that transformed J&J Vision Care's understanding of the China market for contact lenses and led to a reversal of a 3 year negative trend in market shareb) Helped Sunner Foods, a well-established Chinese (public) company with a 40+ year history in B2B, launch a B2C business and achieve all of their aggressive milestones ahead of schedule4. Built a career in media agencies across India, China, SEA and then APAC by focusing on solving client problems in a fast changing media environment. The two prongs to this approach are truly understanding a client's business challenges and also being able to interpret a complex media marketplace with tools and data analysis to identify what a client needs to do. At the same time, a strong focus on commercials ensured a growth in margin from single digit to over 20% and a growth of nearly 50% over 6 years in my leadership roles at Starcom in Asia.I've also run a media consultancy in China (Ebiquity) and managed agency pitches for clients like Pepsi, McDonalds, Unilever and others. Across the course of my advertising career I've advised clients like P&G, Coke, Mars, Mead-Johnson, Cartier Group, Priceline and many others. I've been involved with performance marketing campaigns for Uber in China and Trip.com in Asia.I live and work in China, speak Mandarin fluently and immerse myself in this market, while balancing my perspective on business and economics here with the benefit of my international background and experience. That balance makes me a relatively rare resource - a foreigner who can understand and interpret the China market to the world.
