Profile bio

About Prakash S.R.

Engineer/scientist with broad experience in computational physiology, statistical modeling, signal processing and embedded systems design in biomedical applications, and for consumer devices, wireless and wireline telecommunications.I hold a PhD from the Harvard-MIT Division of Health Science and Technology, and a post-doctoral research fellowship at the Harvard Medical School where I worked on statistical modeling of neural pathways underlying vestibular reflexes, and on applying these models to clinical testing of balance function. I am currently a Principal Scientist at XII Medical, where I help develop audio signal processing front ends for systems that monitor and analyze patients' physiological state. My principal interest is in ways to combine physiology, signal processing and machine learning algorithms to various problems of sensation and perception. My ongoing interest is in signal processing strategies (now increasingly involving machine learning) for making interesting inferences about the mechanisms (especially physiological mechanisms) underlying these signals.Specialties: Signal processing, statistical modeling, biomedical and communication applicationsPhysiology and neurophysiology of hearing, balance and motor systems, machine learning Real-time DSP implementations

Listed skills include Signal Processing, Biomedical Engineering, Algorithms, Digital Signal Processors, and 4 others.

A career timeline built from the work history available for this profile.

Sr Principal Engineer, Signal Processing

Current

United States

Jun 2023 - Present

Chief Scientist

Current

Cupertino, CA

I am developing novel hearing aid algorithms that combine machine learning and signal processing to adapt the hearing aid to changing user needs. The goal is to make hearing aids that users will want to wear all the time, because they work all the time.

Apr 2016 - Present

Principal Scientist

United States

Feb 2022 - Jul 2023

Principal Scientist

United States

I develop signal processing front ends for Dawnlight's systems to help make measurements, inferences, predictions, and interventions around a patient's health.

Oct 2020 - Nov 2022

Principal Algorithms Scientist

Kumu tackles a very hard problem: canceling near-end transmission from received signals in wireless communication systems. I developed adaptive signal processing algorithms for tuning the RF and digital filters, and testing, tuning and troubleshooting the algorithms in dynamic signal environments for LTE wireless networks.

Jan 2014 - Mar 2016

Principal Member, Technical Staff

At Draper I initiated and worked on a variety of internal and external research initiatives, with the common thread of making inferences from different types of data gathered from humans. The data included: physiological measurements (cardiac, eye movement, EEG, PPG), textual responses to questionnaires, iris images, and socio-economic indicators. These.

Jun 2010 - Dec 2013

Research Fellow

Greater Boston Area

As a Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, I extended my doctoral research, and oversaw the implementation of the VEMP metric developed in the dissertation into a tool for use in the clinic. I worked with clinical fellows who examined the clinical testing of the algorithm, and (finally, and with much editorial help from.

Jun 2009 - Jun 2010

Phd Student, Harvard-Mit Division Of Health Science And Technology

Mit

Cambridge, MA

My dissertation dealt with a clinical measurement of vestibular (balance) function in the inner ear. I developed a statistical model of a reflex response known as Vestibular Evoked Myogenic Potential (VEMP), and used the model to develop a quantitive metric that yields a more accurate index of inner ear function than traditional signal averaging.

Sep 2003 - May 2009

Dsp Engineer

Sound Id

Palo Alto, CA

SoundID was an early developer of a Personal Sound Amplification Product (on over-the-counter hearing aid), that became a Bluetooth headset with hearing-aid functionality. I developed, tested, and maintained the suite of DSP algorithms that implemented hearing loss compensation (multiband compressor), noise suppression, and some low-level bit-banging to.

2002 - 2003 ~1 yr

Senior Dsp Engineer

Fremont, CA

As senior signal processing engineer, I was responsible for implementing significant components of a G.992.2 ADSL modem on a new VLIW architecture being rolled out within Centillium. As the DSP team grew, I helped engineers working on older hardware transition to the new platform, identified hardware bugs (always fun in a super-pipelined architecture) and.

2000 - 2002 ~2 yrs

Dsp Engineer

Medianix Semiconductor

Medianix Semi made chips for the consumer audio market: Dolby ProLogic and AC-3 decoders, surround processors, karaoke chips and some all-purpose filters for speaker equalization. I wrote (along with 3-5 engineers) the code for the signal processing algorithms in assembly for our 16-bit Motorola-like DSP architecture, as well as a bunch of C code and.
