My career in Information Technology began with spreadsheets and desktop database management systems working in accounting environments. I found an expression for my creativity by automating accounting tasks. After receiving my B. S. in Computer Science (with departmental honors), I got my first IT job doing quality assurance in a factory. I developed test plans and automated test procedures as well as maintaining operating level test systems. The developers I worked with became my friends and mentors. I always referred to this experience as my IT boot camp.My current position in a community mental health agency has allowed me the opportunity to set technology priorities and to focus in areas that satisfy my interest in problem solving. I have had many roles at this agency which began by my mastering CMHC, a Unix based system, which included report writing and other system enhancements. Under my design and leadership, I was the first in the state of Missouri to implement an 837 EDI with the Department of Mental Health. One of my greatest accomplishments was moving the agency to PsychConsult, a MS SQL based content management system. The analysis process resulted in a design of new data structures and concluded with a series programs to complete the data migration process.The things I enjoy the most about my job are automating processes, manipulating and converting data stores, ad hoc reporting, and data analysis. I have successfully guided many major projects to conclusion.Most recently I have been focused on MS SQL Server technologies. My philosophy is that everyone has different strengths and that sharing yours in the service of helping people find ways to solve their own problems is the ultimate form of job satisfaction.
