Growkery.com.au is the next step on the food journey for Scott Bagnell, Top 9 Finalist of MasterChef Australia 2021 and self-confessed food nerd.Growkery has been inspired by the Scottish word ‘Growk’. Scott said “stumbling across this amazing word, I immediately connected with it. Every time I order at a restaurant, I suffer food envy, seeing someone else's food come out, I find myself staring longingly at their meal wanting them to share it with me. I have definitely growked at a few people before.” “Masterchef was such a fantastic experience – being surrounded by fellow food nerds, sharing ideas and inspiration, I want to continue this journey and share a similar experience with others.” Scott said. “Cooking is a creative process involving fun, chaos, experimentation and bravery and I want to inspire people to connect to food in a more playful way, exploring new ingredients and recipes to create truly growkable food”. “Growkery.com.au is my happy place where we can all embrace the quirky side of food featuring growkable recipes & tips as well as reviews of growkable foodie places and seasonal fresh produce from around Australia.” Scott said. With a lifetime of home-cooking experience, some 380 cookbooks and now months of Masterchef training and competing, Scott said “I have had a lot of fun setting up this next step. I am developing a lot of content at the moment and maybe a few pop-up experiences, and I look forward to sharing these with everyone very soon.”“All fun aside, there is also a strong practical side to my cooking, as most of us have to put food on the table everyday for the family, so I want my cooking to look amazing, taste amazing and inspire others to have a go.” Visit www.growkery.com.au and make sure you subscribe to be updated with the latest growkable content.

Top 9 Finalist

Masterchef Australia

Australia

Scott was placed 9th in the recent season of Masterchef Australia 2021. He is a creative home-cook, cookbook collector, decadent baker and self-confessed food nerd. Scott has been working on combining his love of design, food, wine, travel and teaching through his recent new business Growkery.com.au.When tasked with making the cake for his sister’s wedding, Scott Bagnell was never going to take the easy path. Opting for a two-tiered masterpiece, he also decided to create 12 additional cakes – one for each table. He admits the layered wattle seed dark chocolate and lemon myrtle white chocolate delicacies were a lot to take on, but as guests partied the night away, he knew it was all worth it. Supported at home by his partner Andrew and Mainecoon cat Kingsley, Scott says food was always the centre of his childhood. His extended family grew their own vegetables, and he recalls fondly helping his mum and nana pickle vegetables and bake tarts and biscuits in the morning, before catching mud crabs and fish in the afternoon alongside his dad. Crediting Matt Stone, Adriano Zumbo and Poh Ling Yeow as his culinary inspirations, Scott says it was a university study tour to Spain and France which ignited his love of international food and culture. Never one to shy from a challenge, Scott thinks little of creating extravagant midweek three course dinners for family and friends, often focusing on Asian and Italian cuisines. As a self-confessed food nerd, and boasting a collection of close to 350 cookbooks and 100 food magazines, Scott loves the idea of storytelling through his dishes. Keen to impress, he wowed the judges with his Black Gold dessert at auditions, consisting of a Chocolate Choux au Craquelin with Truffle Zabaglione Cream and Chocolate Soil.
