As Director of Halcrow's urban planning and development team, I held the responsibility for resource development, technical training and growth of the team. This responsibility extended to 90 staff globally (50 staff in the UK) and a business turnover of over £6 million.During this period, three notable achievements are highlighted. FirstIy, I was responsible for growing an economic development team within the Planing offer and establishing Halcrow as a key member of the Homes & Communities Agency Economics Panel. Secondly, I managed the integration of the UK and International Planning practice to provide a global planning resource. Finally, I helped evolve the team towards an integrated planning offer, focused on deliverable solutions. At a project level, our work was focused towards the development of England's Sustainable Communities Growth Areas and major regeneration projects. Growth Area projects covered the Stansted-Cambridge-Peterborough Corridor, Thames Gateway, Milton Keynes South Midlands Sub-Region and Ashford. Key regeneration projects managed included the Great Yarmouth & Lowestoft Areas Action Plans; Harlow Regeneration Strategy; South West Canvey Regeneration Study; Peterborough Station Quarter Development; Bedford Station Quarter Regeneration.

Working for one of the UK's leading Economic Development and Planning practices, my responsibilities included business development and project delivery within the public and private sector planning markets. The focus of work was towards strategic planning / economic studies and economic appraisal to support development projects in the UK and Hong Kong, with a specialism towards the regeneration market and tourism sector. Key research undertaken included: Monitoring the UK Enterprise Zones; Evaluation of Urban Development Corporations; Performance Management for the Regional Development Agencies; Business Planing for major tourism developments in Hong Kong.The client base included central government, local authorities, developers and regeneration bodies. During this period the regeneration context in the UK changed dramatically in response to a wealth of initiatives introduced by the government. Through working closely with a range of regeneration focused clients during this period (UDCs, URCs, SRB Partnerships, Enterprise Zones) I developed a solid appreciation of regeneration success factors from an organisational and development perspective.
