 Encouraged cultural awareness by sharing my South African heritage with students and prompting them to discuss their own cultural background daily as the classroom was very diverse. Designed a STEAM based dinosaur unit where students learned to compare and contrast, analyze, measure and create various dinosaurs.  Focused on word work like sight word recognition, decoding, blending, onsets and rimes daily through small group learning. Designed an art based Space Unit where students investigated the solar system over 3 weeks through multiple resources and made a solar system book. Implemented a positive reinforcement reward system which had students working together as a unit at their respective table groups to gain the reward. Created tiered, inquiry based math lessons where students had to use manipulatives, peer conferencing and independent work to investigate the concepts of addition and subtraction.  Designed small group ELA centers where I worked with below level students and kept record of their progress. Worked in coordination with school speech therapist to help one student with her speech; designed activities to help her with her consonant blends. Organized and monitored guided reading groups using emergent readers and writing based activities to increase fluency. Designed SGO assessment for all 22 students based on level of sight word fluency; implemented plan over 6 weeks, met all targets. Graded all homework and kept running records of homework and student’s academic progress. Volunteered at MAST afterschool Title I program; helped students with homework and implemented educational games and activities.
