    While working as a support worker caring for people with a range of learning disabilities and mental health disabilities, keeping the clients independence was pivotal to the care i provided. A typical day could include supporting a person with personal care if needed including using a hoist, bathing or just prompting if the service user is able to do this themselves. On many occasions i have been the shift leader which means that i would need to organise the staff on shift to do tasks to make sure the service users needs are all met, ordering and booking in of medications and arranging cover for shifts where needed. Aswell as working part of a team i generally work on 1 to 1 basis with service users and in the community supporting service users in there home. Also I support with escorting out to do shopping and going to the bank when needed, attending medical appointments or leisure activities to help the individual fulfil their lives as independently as possible. It is also my responsibility to dispense medications and promote good health. I have to help with meals and bed time activities as well as conflict resolution between the service users. I also briefly worked in Lady croft respite care home to train and completed a first aid course that included treatment of choking using chest thrusts, CPR, defibrillation and use of epi pens. I completed daily reports and spent time with the service users while adhering to each personal care plans.
