For the first few years, I bought my costumes like most people, but it didn't take long before I noticed the trend for most ready-made costume for the hobby (it has to be fairly hard-wearing to survive being worn in a field and taken camping regularly for months!) to be sized (and styled) for larger men. I started making my own dresses in 2009, when my first piece of costume took me four months of evening hand-sewing.I still love to do couture work, constructing a pattern on paper for the particular needs of the piece and sewing much of the work by hand, but since then, I've also been on machining courses, and my completion time for simpler work has done down considerably. I went from pattern and fabric to a wedding dress in just three weeks*! My prices can be negotiated, particularly if the customer is supplying their own fabric and notions or is flexible on timescale. I particularly enjoy working with silk, but have been trained in the uses and temperments of various fabrics, and particularly enjoy challenging projects!I also do some alterations and mending work, both with the sewing machine and by hand.*full time work.
