Administrative Director of the MD/PhD Program - being the liaison between the MD/PhD students and the medical school and graduate school- advising and mentoring the MD/PhD students - keeping the program running smoothly by keeping myself and the program organized- working on grants, finances, budgeting, meetings, and events- attending conferences and symposia for recruitment of future applicants and students- staying in touch with our alumni for mentoring of current and graduating students and to keep updated on their careers- working on written and oral presentations- admissions and interviews for each application cycle (~250 applicants / year)I very much enjoy working with the current MD/PhD students and meeting with future applicants to the MD/PhD program.     • My abstract was chosen for an oral presentation two times at our biannual international meetings• Generated a knockout mouse with a deletion in the carboxypeptidase N gene and characterized the effect of this gene deletion in various inflammatory models; crossed these mice with our C3aR and C5aR knockout mice and demonstrated that C5a, but not C3a, caused shock in these mice that was due to excessive histamine release• Supervised a student with his Master’s project; created a mouse model of Moraxella catarrhalis and worked with him in the characterization of a new knockout mouse (C4 binding protein knockout mouse)• Mentored undergraduate students during short summer projects and supervised a research assistant to maintain the smooth daily and long term operation of the laboratory
