Senior Research ScientistThe University Of Texas Health Science Center At Houston Dec 2011 - Apr 2022• Laboratory Manager: maintaining and ordering supplies; maintaining equipment; managing the mouse colony and keeping track of our transgenic mice on a spreadsheet• My abstract was chosen for an oral presentation four times at our biannual international meetings• Established an aerosol infection model in mice using Mycobacterium avium and characterized the importance of C5a and C3a in this infection using our C5aR1-/- mice and C3aR-/- mice.• Established a sepsis model in mice using Listeria monocytogenes and demonstrated the importance of complement components C3a and C5a and their receptors, C3aR and C5aR1 and C5aR2, respectively. • Supervised a M.D./ Ph.D. student with his Ph.D. project and have mentored and supervised a postdoctoral fellow, a junior scientist, and undergraduate summer students with their projects -
Research ScientistThe University Of Texas Health Science Center At Houston Oct 2006 - Nov 2011• My abstract was chosen for an oral presentation two times at our biannual international meetings• Generated a knockout mouse with a deletion in the carboxypeptidase N gene and characterized the effect of this gene deletion in various inflammatory models; crossed these mice with our C3aR and C5aR knockout mice and demonstrated that C5a, but not C3a, caused shock in these mice that was due to excessive histamine release• Supervised a student with his Master’s project; created a mouse model of Moraxella catarrhalis and worked with him in the characterization of a new knockout mouse (C4 binding protein knockout mouse)• Mentored undergraduate students during short summer projects and supervised a research assistant to maintain the smooth daily and long term operation of the laboratory -
Postdoctoral FellowThe University Of Texas Health Science Center At Houston Dec 2001 - Sep 2006• My abstract was chosen for an oral presentation two times at our biannual international meetings• Established a pneumonia model in mice using Pseudomonas aeruginosa and demonstrated that complement component C3 and the alternative pathway of complement activation are necessary for mouse survival and bacterial clearance (used C3-/- mice, C4-/- mice, and Factor B-/- mice) • Demonstrated that C3aR plays a pro-inflammatory role in this model of pneumonia using C3aR-/- mice • Supervised a M.D./ Ph.D. student with his Ph.D. project; created a bacteremia model in mice using heat-killed E. coli and worked with him in the characterization of the C5aR-/- mouse that he created -
