• Participate in the laboratory's research program with an emphasis on biomolecular threats to racing.• Development and validation of methods for the detection of small molecules in equine, canine and human biological material.• Provide training and support for staff in the use and maintenance of the mass spectrometry instrumentation (Agilent 5973; Thermo Fisher Polaris; Shimadzu QP5000, QP5050, and 2010Plus; Waters MicroMass QQQ GCMS; Thermo Fisher Quantum TSQ, Vantage TSQ, DECA, DECA XP, ExactivePlus and QExactive; and ABI Sciex 4000 QTrap LCMS.)• Perform confirmatory analysis of equine, canine and human biological samples for the presence of prohibited substances within the framework of the Rules of Racing. • Analysis of biological material for the presence of various classes of drugs and the quantitation and reporting of prohibited substances according to AS/NZS 4308.2001.• Checking and reporting of laboratory results.

• Provision of analytical services to a range of customers with a high degree of analytical accuracy and timeliness delivery of reports.• Supervision and training of staff for the analysis of biological material for the presence of various classes of drugs and the quantitation and reporting of prohibited substances according to AS/NZS 4308.2001. • Operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of laboratory instrumentation (Varian Saturn GC/MS, Hewlett Packard 5973 GC/MS, Thermo Electron Polaris GC/MS, Shimadzu QP 5000 GC/MS, Hitachi 911 and 917, and Olympus 2700 analysers).• Checking and authorising laboratory results for final reporting and dispatching to clients.• Liaising with clients and providing interpretation of analytical results.• Seeking out new business opportunities and providing quotes for fee for service• Monitoring of laboratory performance in external Quality Assurance Program for drugs of abuse.• Method development and maintenance of all laboratory documentation to comply with NATA accreditation, ISO17025, ISO 15189 and AS/NZS4308.2001.

Clinical and Environmental Toxicology Dept :• Analysis of biological material for the presence of various classes of drugs and the quantitation and reporting of prohibited substances according to AS/NZS 4308.1995.• Operation, maintenance and trouble shooting of laboratory instrumentation including a Varian Saturn GC/MS, Hewlett Packard 5973 GC/MS and Hewlett Packard 1100 LC/MS instruments• Monitoring of laboratory performance in external Quality Assurance Program for drugs of abuseDrugs Dept:• Receipt of forensic exhibits from the NSW Police Force and maintenance of exhibit integrity.• Analysis of Forensic exhibits, including tablets, capsules, powders and liquids for the presence of prohibited substances, employing a variety of techniques including TLC, IR and GC/MS.Forensic Toxicology Dept:• Analysis of a range of post-mortem samples including blood, urine, bile and liver, for the presence of drugs and poisons, utilising gas chromatography and UV Spectrometry.• Analysis of quality assurance samples.• Routine maintenance of Varian 3400D GC/NPD.
