As a Venture Advisor at i2E (Innovation to Enterprise), I work with portfolio and client companies to position them on the high-growth trajectory by leveraging my experience as an entrepreneur and educator. I am also responsible for managing i2E’s Business Accelerator in Tulsa. I work closely with each client coaching them from initial technology development to business planning and later positioning for funding all the way to company launch and growth. I’ve got a front row seat working with disruptive and interesting technologies within both start-ups as well as existing companies.Being on this side of venture capital allows me to use my past experience raising money for my own start-up to form a unique connection with our client companies. As the director of the UPAEP Liaison Office in the United States I was responsible for expansion of the internationally recognized dual degree programs and coordinating student and faculty immersion programs in both the U.S. and Mexico. This position kept me moving between UPAEP’s campus in Puebla, Mexico and our partner institution Oklahoma State University (OSU) in Stillwater, Oklahoma USA. Having previously attended UPAEP as a master’s student, it was a pleasure to work for them and share my first-hand experiences in both Mexico and the U.S. with potential students. As I was the only UPAEP employee in the United States, I learned to work independently in certain aspects of the position as well as how to collaborate over distances in others. I was also privileged to work with a wonderful team in the Wes Watkins Center at OSU. UPAEP’s Outreach efforts included working with everyone from the graduate colleges to presidents and deans; most importantly, I worked with students and faculty at the High School, Undergraduate, Graduate and Doctoral levels to realize both short-term and long-term exchanges. Constantly tackling unexpected changes enabled me to adopt a pivot strategy where challenges were met and dealt with without much fanfare in order to keep the programs running smoothly. This position allowed me to gain a new appreciation for coordinating across languages and cultures as well as invaluable “in the trenches” experiences at home and abroad. HIGHLIGHTED RESPONSIBILITIES- Coordinate every aspect of travel and experience for groups ranging from 3 people to 200 people including: schedule creation, transportation, activities, academic content lodging, meals, security considerations, budgets and invoicing - Broker course matches, memorandums of understanding, and partnership agreements - Guide students through the application and arrival processes including visa requirements- Lead orientations and information sessions in both English in Spanish

What started out as a project for the OSU Creativity, Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CIE) Scholars eventually developed into my first start-up. Based on a proprietary purification process PristineCal sought to sell ultra-pure calcium on a per-ton basis to the food and beverage industry. While I didn’t know it at the time, I was getting my first entrepreneurial battle scars: proving the market, working with our Principal Investigator, losing partners, pitching to investors, writing and re-writing the business plan, cold calls and countless other trials entrepreneurs face.The remaining co-founder and I bootstrapped the company for a year, not taking full-time jobs after graduating with our MBA’s and were fortunate enough to have the opportunity to speak about our company to investors in both the United States and abroad. As we found common among universities, the strict technology licensing requirements hindered our abilities to move forward with the business as planned, and after two and a half years we decided to exit PristineCal. I learned far more about business by starting one than I ever learned in a classroom and I’m proud to bring my first-hand knowledge to start-ups, students, and my future ventures. As the Manager of Programs and Outreach at the Riata Center I was responsible for managing the planning, development, budgeting, promotion, coordination and evaluation of potential and ongoing outreach programs and activities for the Riata Center and joint programs with the School of Entrepreneurship. The center had an excellent “learn by doing” atmosphere that thrust me right into the planning and promotion of various entrepreneurial events. My primary efforts were divided among 2 initiatives: 1. Women Entrepreneurship: The annual Women Entrepreneurs INSPIRE Conference is a day-long conference designed to empower women entrepreneurs. I was the team lead for our 3rd annual conference that boasted more than 2,000 attendees, 30 speakers and 60 sponsor booths. Responsibilities included coordinating a statewide marketing campaign, hosting networking events, vetting venues and speakers, overseeing design and production of all advertising materials, directing online campaigns through Constant Contact, hosting a webinar series, social media, prospecting potential attendees, tracking registrations, soliciting and securing corporate sponsorships and booth reservations, coordinating travel for 50+ VIPs including the Governor of the State of Oklahoma, among others in addition to full day-of conference coordination responsibilities. 2. Veteran Entrepreneurship:The Veterans Entrepreneurship Program (VEP) that provides a rigorous entrepreneurial learning and development opportunity for disabled veterans at no cost to the veteran. As the event co-manager, I ran an extremely targeted nationwide recruitment campaign using direct mailers, phone calls, and a strong online presence. I aided in the selection and travel coordination for all veterans and speakers. I also helped organize a 300+ guest gala for our graduation ceremony. This position further ignited my passion for entrepreneurship, corporate event planning, and going above and beyond expectations.

I was fortunate enough to have a graduate assistantship for the year of my Dual Degree Program that I did in the United States at Oklahoma State University. From August 2011- December 2011 I worked with the office of the Dean of the Spears School of Business doing clerical work and assisting in the Business Communication department. From January 2012- May 2012 I worked in the Riata Center for Entrepreneurship where my position focused on student entrepreneurship and I assisted in the organization and promotion of various student events including business plan competitions, pitch competitions, and the student start-up incubator. I also regularly participated in business plan and pitch critiques for student start-ups. I later accepted a more permanent position as a manager in this department.

I really enjoy teaching and I’ve had the privilege of giving several courses and workshops on various topics. Working in real estate was a great way for me to get to know Stillwater, as well as to compare and contrast my family’s company with another real estate company. My boss, another female entrepreneur, let me know early there was no such thing as a “normal” day, and always kept things entertaining. As a licensed office assistant I organized and streamlined office operations for an office of 7 realtors as well as managed rental properties. I also served as a personal assistant and schedule manager for office broker/owner.

As far as college jobs go, I really lucked out. I got to work with yet another wonderful female entrepreneur specializing in women’s fashion, gifts, and sorority merchandise in the heart of Campus Corner in Stillwater. As a sales representative I provided advice in fashion decisions, constructed displays, assembled outfits, answered the telephone, worked with computer system, took custom orders over the phone, coordinated alterations, participated in product purchase discussions, engaged customers in a highly one-on-one specialty sales process, and learned to gift wrap with the best of them. Seriously, you should see my bows.

I was fortunate to work with an incredible female entrepreneur and small business owner in my hometown where I learned the basics of customer service, sales, and going above and beyond for our clients. We specialized in women’s clothing and event wear… I also now realize this is where I picked up my horrible shopping habit. In my position I steamed and tagged new merchandise, called customers when new merchandise arrived, provided advice in fashion decisions, constructed displays, assembled outfits, answered the telephone, worked with a computer system, and modeled for advertising campaigns.

The minute I turned 18 I got my real estate license so I would be able to work for my mom’s company. I enjoyed learning the ins and outs of the family business and began to appreciate the challenges of owning and operating a company. As a licensed assistant I aided with multiple office tasks including: answering the phone and prioritizing messages, collecting rent, scheduling repairs putting out real estate signs, showing properties, delivering papers to various offices, attending real estate tour, designing marketing materials and newspaper ads, and recording checks.
