Role included:• Managing Historic England’s overall parliamentary communication and engagement strategy• Advising the Chairman, Chief Executive and others on parliamentary matters and the wider political landscape• Identifying areas of parliamentary business of interest to Historic England • Collaborating with the Planning Directors and Local Engagement Advisers to maintain their own local parliamentary strategies • Acting as the organisation’s “parliamentary ambassador” and being the day to day contact with MPs and Lords• Promoting an understanding of the work of Historic England and the wider historic environment amongst parliamentarians • Organising parliamentary events

Over 200 people attended the launch which had a lot of media attention • Successfully took the Cultural Property (Armed Conflicts) Bill through parliament with only technical amendments – other amendments were held off because of the advocacy work I managed with stakeholders and parliamentarians• Wrote speech for the Report Stage of the Cultural Property Bill, which was highly commended by the Secretary of State’s personal speechwriter

• Part of team which successfully influenced and negotiated with UK government and parliament to bring in the Animal Welfare Act 2006 (17 concessions on key issues from the government) and Hunting Act 2007 • Successfully lobbied politicians to prevent a badger cull from being carried out from 2006 to 2012 and to win a backbench debate on banning wild animals in circuses in 2011• Project manager of the RSPCA campaign ‘Fairer Fillings’ (food procurement)which won the Public Affairs News Award for ‘Most Innovative Campaign’ 2011• Involved in promotion of Freedom Food farm assurance scheme and part of Farm Animal Welfare Fund team working towards method of production labelling in the EU.• Initiated and project managed the critically acclaimed Political Animal website: a unique resource for politicians and their staff
