About 4yrs ago, shortly after my oldest daughter graduated from high school, I decided to leave the corporate world of furniture where I held a Human Resources position, and return back to school to pursue a career in Human Services. This is a career I had always wanted to do, however, going back to school as a single parent took some time to accomplish. I have now graduated with what I originally thought would be one degree, instead I graduated with 3 degrees. All in the Applied Science Human Services field. Substance Abuse Counseling, Mental Health, and Generalist counseling. While in school I made the Dean's list each semester, became a Student Ambassador for GTCC, a Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society member, and the Titan Recovery President. I also won the All USA Academic Team award, the Community Service award, and the Perseverance award. Truly proud moments for me, and exceeding even my own expectation for myself when I decided to go back to school. Expressing my excitement to begin this new career isn't possible to describe in words. I have passed my state boards for Substance Abuse Counseling (CSAC-I 24445) and have been certified in CPR/AED/First Aid/Blood Borne Pathogen. In addition to working with those who suffer from substance misuse disorder I too hope to work with high risk adolescents who circumstances has or may lead them down roads that aren't as prosperous. Coming from a background that wasn't always the most positive has given me a true empathy for those who feel, and has felt they had no positive choices.
