Litigation Associate
Communications Director
I was responsible for improving and maintaining the press operation in my office. In addition to working with my colleagues to strategically position our office messages, I wrote press releases, talking points, speeches and op-eds, updated the website, created and disseminated e newsletters, managed the press schedule, coordinated and built relationships with reporters, created social media content and other communication related responsibilities. In my previous position, I managed our office mail program. I researched a variety of issues and responded to constituent concerns via written mail. I discussed mail best practices on a Legislative Correspondent panel, and discussed capitalizing on the “Hill” experience on a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation informational panel. In my other previous congressional staffing positions, I was responsible for proper operation of the front desk including, greeting meetings, answering telephones, sorting mail, etc. I also processed constituent tour and flag requests. In addition, I served as Intern Coordinator. As Intern Coordinator, I helped to ensure that interns were given meaningful work and had an overall worthwhile experience on Capitol Hill.In a non-work-related capacity, I regularly phone banked and canvassed for Democratic candidates in various races. I served as a Democratic National Committee (DNC) Phone Bank Team Lead as well as the DNC Convention Media Parking Credentials Supervisor and a Convention Signage Team Lead.
Communications Intern
As a Congressional Black Caucus Foundation (CBCF) intern, my largest responsibility was during the Annual Legislative Conference (ALC), attended by thousands of people including President Obama. As a communications intern, I helped run press operations for the ALC including updating Twitter and publishing an article on the CBCF blog which was featured on the CBCF homepage. Through CBCF, I was assigned to Congressman Levin’s office (MI-12). In this position I assisted staff members with legislative and communication duties including writing op-eds for the congressman, updating the congressman on current events, attending briefings, writing memos, and researching and updating respective legislative assistants on certain policy. My daily assignments included responding to constituent concerns, entering constituent information into the data entry system, greeting meetings and performing other administrative tasks.
Student
I graduated in May 2011 with a BA in public communication, a double minor in French and sociology and an unforgettable study abroad experience in Paris.
Public Policy Intern
I researched news articles, and child care websites, that contained child care licensing, background checks and safety issues as well as general regulatory information. I compiled child care documentation to be distributed to NACCRRA constituents and Congressional representatives. I examined the child care aware website and provided improvement recommendations. I researched the current seat allotment in Congress and updated the NACCRRA listing. My long term assignment included formatting 96 pages of documentation to be uploaded to the computer network drive. In addition, I helped to provide information based on research data to NACCRRA stakeholders to ensure that child care homes in various states are properly regulated and safe for children.
Intern
My main responsibility was to the Blue Cross Blue Shield Board of Directors. I reviewed, edited and created meeting and financial materials for the BCBSM Board of Directors and committees using Word, Excel, Powerpoint and Adobe. I was a main contact person for the Board of Directors staff in relation to the BCBSM summer board meetings. I edited relevant documentation, coordinated activities and successfully helped execute the summer meetings while serving as a personal liaison and contact before and throughout the event. In 2009, I was also a team liaison for the Employee Resource Network eco-friendly team. As co-lead for this ERN, we successfully created a foreshadowing film for BCBSM's green policies. Please note that the above details two summer internship positions.
Intern
I was an active member in the Diversity and Inclusion Employee Resource Network team and was one of two participants to present ERN conclusions to senior executives of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. I also organized and filed hundreds of documents on the Information Technology network drive.
Private Tutor
I contracted with Above and Beyond Educational Services and tutored a third grade student in mathematics twice a week. I created personal lesson plans (practice worksheets, flashcards and games) according to her school work and need. I formulated bi-weekly exams to test her progress and reported her improvement to her mother after each session. I successfully upheld the company's mission of providing tutoring services that motivate students to improve their academics and to remain confident in their abilities.
