-Compliance: Manage compliance process for US sales & use tax, US environment/excise tax, and Canadian GST/HST/PST.-Audits: Manage US sales & use tax audits - state and local, US environmental/excise tax audits, and Canadian GST/HST/PST audits. -Property Tax - serve as liaison for property tax requests, bills, and filings. -Review and approve application of environment/excise tax for all products.-Educate various internal groups (purchasing, plant personnel, etc.) and external customers on taxability of purchases and sales. -Provide sales tax guidance on special projects. Work with customer service and VIOC team on new store rate requirements. -Research and apply for new business licenses/other sales tax requirements as they relate to store acquisitions and new builds.-Assist with sales tax compliance by reconciling, filing, and paying US & Canada returns timely and accurately following SOX requirements. -Review accrued use tax and adjust as necessary. Educate various groups on taxable vs non-taxable items as they relate to purchasing.-Assist with open US sales tax, Canadian GST HST/PST, and excise tax audits to minimize tax liability.-Serve as a point of contact for external parties such as plant managers and engineers on sales tax matters. -Review new petroleum based products for appropriate excise tax rates.-Reconcile, file, and pay environmental excise returns timely and accurately following SOX requirements. -Valvoline was a subsidiary of Ashland Inc. until 2016.
