I supervise MSC students’ project in Global Health Policy, and have contributed to the development for a new course on ‘Global Public Health and Law.’

Part of the Senior Management Team, I led a team of 20 staff and consultants; and had strategic leadership and budget oversight for the department (approximately one third of the organizational budget). I modelled an evaluative mindset and sought to embed a rigorous attention to monitoring, evaluation and learning to enhance progress under a new organisational strategy. I restructured the team to foster greater synergies and seeking to facilitate stronger teamwork, professional growth, and excellence at all levels.I developed new programs such as the Heart of Stigma initiative, and oversaw programs across the HIV care cascade including programs focused on basic science (vaccine and cure) through to models of care delivery (person centred and differentiated) and lived experiences (community leadership and advocacy).

I developed and co-convened a module for the Intensive LLM programme at Birkbeck in the School of Law, titled ‘Risks, Rights and Responsibilities: Governing Epidemics and Regulating Health’ with Professor Matthew Weait.

I taught the 'Poverty, International Development and Human Rights' module as part of the intensive LLM programme at the Law School.

I provided technical support to partner organisations in countries around the world about integrating health services, supporting communities to demand a range of different sexual and reproductive health services, and human rights based approaches to health service provision.

To support the transition and establishment of a brand new institute of infection and immunity, I managed the media relations and developed the strategic communications approach for the Doherty, a world-class institute combining research, teaching excellence, reference laboratories, public health, clinical and diagnostic services.

As an independent freelance consultant about human rights, health and HIV, I worked to produce good practice guidelines and policy briefs relating to aspects of the Global Commission on HIV and Law and on facilitation and training for integrated SRH and HIV services for young key population groups.Key expertise includes the human right to health, HIV-related stigma, community mobilisation, facilitation and training, curriculum development, participatory research, and program monitoring, evaluating and reporting. Partnerships for consultancy contracts included UNDP, IPPF and UNFPA.

I managed media relationships and strategic communication in Australia, Asia and the Pacific in the lead up to the 20th International AIDS Conference in Melbourne July 2014. I was responsible for brokering media partnerships with private and community organisations, and coordinating engagement with local and regional media.

I worked in progressively more senior roles as the HIV Officer for stigma (2008-2010), Senior HIV Officer (2010 – 13), and Acting Senior Advisor for HIV (2012; 2013). This was a role that involved strategic leadership of the HIV portfolio of IPPF as well as management of the HIV team (staff and consultants) situated in the London office as well as technical support for the six regional HIV focal points, and twenty-five HIV global focus countries. I oversaw flagship programmes such as the initial partnership to develop the People Living with HIV Stigma Index (operational now in over 80 countries worldwide) and a five-year implementation science research programme on integrating sexual and reproductive health and rights and HIV services in Kenya, Malawi and Swaziland (the Integra Initiative). I also developed global human-rights based advocacy campaigns.

At Panos I developed 2 new projects—a participatory research and communication initiative with HIV social movements, and a global baseline and comparative media analysis of print media coverage of HIV- and worked collaboratively as part of the Global AIDS Programme headquartered in Lusaka, Zambia.

As a member of the documentation team at the “Global Pastoralist Gatherings” organized by the Pastoralist Communication Initiative and UNOCHA in Ethiopia, I enjoyed the opportunity to listen and learn from pastoralists talking about their lives, their challenges and their visions for the future. Both gatherings brought together an unprecedented diversity of participants—from around the world and across the different groups of Horn of Africa. I contributed to a daily newspaper published during the event (which included interviews with participants, researching issues of participatory and popular communication strategies, and editing / layout of the daily publication). Publications from the gatherings include ‘Rain Prosperity and Peace’ (2005) and ‘Peace, Trade and Unity’ (2006).

As the knowledge officer I was responsible for facilitating learning and professional development among the advisors within the education division based in the UK and around the world.

During my time with the Participation Group at the Institute of Development Studies, I was the research assistant with a professional networking initiative about learning and teaching for social transformation.I was responsible for facilitating and coordinating an international workshop in April 2005 about learning and teaching participation in a transformative way within institutes of higher learning. I was the lead author on the report published from that workshop, 'Currents of Change.' I also managed aspects of the budget, developed a new webspace, and contributed a platform for future collaborative action and research (part-time). I also worked with the Participation Resource Centre to disseminate recent research findings and methodologies in ‘participation’ to a broad audience of practitioners and researchers.

Independent consultant for a range of projects looking at issues in international education. I worked with three DFID funded projects, looking at successes and failures in girls’ education in Asia, aid modalities in education, and editing a comparative study of education in Ghana and Botswana. I also worked with a UNESCO/ UNGEI funded project looking at the processes of scaling-up girls’ education as well as designing and publishing the first alumni newsletter for the MA International Education at Sussex University.

I was responsible for development the lifeskills component of a new experiential education programme, POEM, to re-engage out of school young people with the education system in and around Bondi.
