Stories are how we make meaning of our lives and our relationships with each other. All my work, at heart, is about storytelling, and the empathy, collaboration, curiosity and creativity that goes with it. As a senior editor with Harlequin, I facilitate storytelling through novels by leading the editorial strategy for Afterglow Books, which publishes 24 contemporary romances a year. Our model is unique. Each month the books are distributed as a branded product in North America and internationally. I ensure a consistent personality for the imprint by acquiring new voices, managing creative teams and implementing the brand strategy. In addition, I do developmental and line edits for a list of authors that includes New York Times bestselling author Brenda Jackson, USA TODAY bestselling authors Naima Simone and Janice Maynard, celebrated Brazilian author Paula Ottoni, and more. Right now, I’m interested in acquiring authentic, energetic, sexy voices and stories that use classic romance tropes in unexpected ways.As founder, owner and executive director of Brooklyn Wild LLC, the story-making happens outdoors. I lead a playful, caring team of informal educators. Together, we create opportunities for children and adults to (re-) learn how to play deeply (which is where stories begin) and get hands-on with nature (which is where creativity and experimentation can be most open-ended.) Our model is inspired by forest schools and adventure playgrounds, and is grounded in the practice of playwork. Through observation, reflection, dynamic risk assessment and tailoring best practices to the individual needs in our classes, we hold space for others to get messy, take risks, build resilience and dare to see the world—and each other—in a new way. As a writer, I tell little stories. My newsletter, People Who Play, provides essays and community for creators, parents, nature lovers and other folks looking to balance the work of their lives with play, rest and feeling fully alive.
