I work for Las Colinas Pharmacy Compounding & Wellness in Irving, TX. We started compounding back before the invent of the capsule machine when we would have to hand pack capsules. Having been involved with every area of a Sterile and Nonsterile compounding pharmacy, I have a greater appreciation of the strategic operations and planning that it takes to produce highly trained technicians, and quality compounded medications.My specialties in pharmacy compounding include extensive knowledge and understanding of the PCAB/ACHC accreditation process, USP 795 & 797, development of Standard Operating Procedures, Quality Control/Quality Assurance, Strategic planning and Marketing, Brand Design, Customer Relationship Building, a robust training and competency program, Advertising, Vendor Relationships, In-House Seminars, and Tracking the ROI of Marketing efforts. Having been involved in the design, building and operations of the Sterile Lab that is now PCAB accredited I have seen the industry grow an move in the right directions. As the Compounding Pharmacy Educator I develop, produce, and distribute all advertising and marketing materials for all of our physicians, seminars, and customers. This is not just marketing to physicians, but educating them on ways we can help their practice grow. My passion in the industry is not just Advocating on capitol hill every year for our profession, but advocating for ALL pharmacy technicians. I would love to see it become the norm that we have just as many technicians involved in boards and programs as we have pharmacists and owners. As a current Board member of The Alliance for Pharmacy Compounding and the past president of the Pharmacy Compounding Foundation Board and Co-Chair of the Education Committee I am happy to say that efforts are paying off and compounding technicians are being noticed more. In the coming months we will be announcing Scholarships for technicians to be able to attend Compounding functions.
