The project has included restoring historic features, modernizing the kitchen and bathrooms, updating the electrical, plumbing, and HVAC systems for code compliancy, and reprogramming spaces to fulfill the needs and wants of the owners, while efficiently utilizing the available square footage. -Broadened my skill set and gained a strong working knowledge of all aspects of residential construction and renovating methods, tools, materials, and processes as I fulfilled four prominent roles: project manager, architect, engineer, and construction laborer. **Earned a reputation amongst subcontractors as a skillful carpenter, diligent worker, and creative designer and engineer with an eye for detail and a clear understanding of construction methods.

The Journey (2015- present): Provide graphic design services and administrative support as part of a weekly volunteer service team.Washington University Graduate School of Architecture and Urban Design (December 2013):Participated in an interdisciplinary graduate course presentation and discussion about the Shaw Neighborhood including a breakdown of its history, demographics, and built environment along with recommendations on how to improve its safety, economic welfare, and livability. EVUCC:(2002, 2003): Vacation Bible School Leader: Responsible for reinforcing daily lessons and directing activities for classes of 10 to 20 children. (2008): Stewardship Board Member: Researched, strategized, developed, and implemented methods and activities to educate the congregation about how the church’s resources are allocated and how individuals can donate their time, skills, and money to help fulfill the church’s mission.

East St. Louis Action Research Project:Provided demolition and cleanup services for a women’s shelter, vacant city lot, grade school, and church. Young Architects Forum St. Louis + Home First:Performed demolition, cleanup, and construction services for an apartment rehab project. Shaw Neighborhood Improvement Association + Shaw Neighborhood Housing Corporation + Tower Grove Neighborhoods Community Development Corporation:Cleaned up and landscaped green spaces and painted artistic crosswalks as part of several Tower Grove Neighborhood beautification, safety, and community branding efforts.Habitat for Humanity:Unloaded and organized donated construction and home decorating items at the ReStore.

I acquired invaluable insight into and experience with the construction industry’s various phases and facets as an intern, and then as a fulltime engineer after graduation. Deepened my understanding of structures and strengthened my leadership and communication skills through assisting with undergraduate steel design, undergraduate reinforced concrete design, and graduate structural analysis courses. Classes ranged from 80 to 120 students.-Prepared and presented lectures.-Graded and kept records of projects, presentations, assignments, quizzes, and exams. -Conducted exam study sessions which included material review, example problems, and Q&A.-Lead bi-weekly lab sessions for 40 students – lectured, reviewed material, demonstrated example problems, assisted with assignments, and provided additional tutoring.-Created two significant structural design projects in coordination with three teaching assistants to reinforce class concepts. Developed project guidelines, constraints, presentation logistics, and a point system for evaluating completeness, level of understanding, design development and esthetics, model construction, and rule complicity.

While exercising drafting, design, teamwork, and organizational skills, I gained a working knowledge of interdisciplinary relationships, project development, and construction document production.-Engaged in small and medium sized, new construction, commercial and military projects including a credit union, MetroBus station, office building, car wash, and community recreational center. Produced and reviewed architectural plans, elevations, sections, renderings, schedules, details, and specifications for projects of varying degrees of completion from the development of concept sketches, preliminary design drawings, and presentation boards to construction and record drawings. Throughout these phases, I collaborated with architecture, estimating, engineering, and construction teams, evaluated project submissions for consistency and compliance with company standards, responded to RFIs and change orders, and revised drawings and specifications. -Transformed an ineffective product and code library by updating and reorganizing its contents. This effort was facilitated first by my attendance of weekly lectures regarding new building products and construction technologies and second by contacting and meeting with vendors to obtain knowledge and literature on new products.
