As part of my leadership development program at James Hardie, I had the opportunity to provide analytical marketing support to a potential acquisition target. I conducted primary and secondary market research, and built a financial model to help us understand the probability of the target being a profitable venture. Ultimately, we determined that it was not and we passed on the opportunity.

In this role I supported the Transportation group at James Hardie with daily, weekly, and monthly reporting and analysis to maintain visibility to our performance. I also initiated and managed a variety of projects to save freight dollars for the company. The largest such project was to create a dedicated fleet for our Texas plants to handle the majority of local loads in the area, saving us money over the spot market rates we had been paying. This project was implemented in August 2015 and is estimated to save Hardie $700-800K/year in freight costs. Over my time in this role, the cumulative estimated savings of projects I led are $850K/year.

My internship at James Hardie provided my first exposure to Supply Chain Management. James Hardie manufactures fiber cement siding at seven plants throughout the United States and ships products to hundreds of customers and distributors across the nation on around 1700 trucks/week. Over the summer I addressed and improved inefficiencies in the distribution network, specifically on the Less-Than-Truckload (LTL) shipments/week.
