I love designing books. I never thought I would say that, but since coming to Tyndale in 2000, I've grown to love creating innovative covers for books. Tyndale publishes hundreds of books every year, and I have the privilege of working on fiction and non-fiction books while at the same time developing and designing innovative Bible products. After five years art directing PC Gamer magazine within Future Publishing, I was given the chance to help launch a new magazine: Revolution. A nationwide, monthly magazine dedicated to the dance music craze, Revolution was both cutting edge and short-lived. PC Gamer gave me my first chance to be an art director. After starting as the assistant art director and working at PCG for a year, the art director left, leaving an opening and a chance to move up. My bosses saw potential in me and gave me a shot at leading the art direction for the magazine. Working with an assistant, I helped lead PCG through some of their biggest issues during the boom times of the dot.com era while helping breaking some of the biggest stories in the gaming world. My first job out of college was for a popular, mid-sized newspaper. I started the way all editors and designers do: as a designer/copy editor. A small team of us would take turns copy editing stories, writing headlines, and designing pages. Once the editors realized I had a passion for design, I quickly moved to designing most of the time and soon began designing the front pages and special sections. It was a great job, and the only reason I left was to follow my wife to California to work at PC Gamer magazine.
