Profile bio

About Stan Davis

I am enthusiastic about working hard at something worth doing. I am motivated by being part of a unified team dedicated to a meaningful common goal, whether in a leadership, supporting or production role. I am an independent thinker eager to explore new ideas but respectful of established practices. I have a lengthy and strong track record of successfully striking the balance between thorough analysis and operational urgency - this skill requires knowledge, experience, and judgement. I believe teams are most effective when open and respectful collaboration is the norm. I advocate for evidence-based practices that foster task clarity, efficiency and morale. I believe thoughtful planning prevents "ready, fire, aim" mistakes and builds confidence.I have a Masters Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Carolina, one of the top 25 CJ universities in the country and I am completing my doctorate degree. I hold credentials from the American Correctional Association (ACA) as a Certified Corrections Executive and auditor and serve on the national 9-member ACA Certification Commission.I retired as a Lieutenant Commander from the Navy Reserve, having started in 1985 as a hospital corpsman and commissioning later as an intelligence officer. I mobilized in 1991 for Desert Storm and again in 2001 for Operation Enduring Freedom. I served in Mt. Pleasant, SC as a law enforcement officer, earning the rank of Lieutenant before taking an appointment at the Naval Brig in Charleston. From 2001- to 2009 I was the Deputy Director of Security Operations (GS-0080-12) for both American military and enemy combatant operations, then promoted to Director of Prisoner Management (GS-0006-13) in 2009. I retired from that position in June 2021. I managed a staff of nearly 20 multi-service and civilian personnel covering 24/7 housing unit, classification, reception, release and parole operations. Together we guided convicted veterans to re-enter civilian life as successful members of their communities. I am working on my doctoral dissertation, which is focused on resource allocation as it affects recidivism and prison populations. Married for over 34 years, my wife and I watch our adult children make their way in the world, and in my free time I'mrestoring a '76 Triumph Spitfire roadster.I welcome discussions about innovative approaches to corrections, enjoy comparing notes and finding ways to improve results.

Listed skills include Military, Training, Leadership, Security Operations, and 24 others.
