Stan retired as a partner in Shook, Hardy & Bacon L.L.P. as of January 1, 2020 after 44 years of practice. He was a first chair trial lawyer for over 44 years and elected a Fellow in the American College of Trial Lawyers in 1994. He was listed for over 20 years in The Best Lawyers in America in the categories of Personal Injury, Products Liability, Environmental Litigation and Business Litigation. Stan was also named a Missouri & Kansas Super Lawyer yearly from 2006 to 2020.Stan is a frequent CLE lecturer, author on trial procedure and trial practice and teacher of his former firm's trial advocacy program courses in Basic Litigation Skills and Advanced Trial Workshop. He graduated from the Kansas Institute of Trial Advocacy NITA Program in 1978. While in law school, he was an associate editor and, later, note and comment editor of the Kansas Law Review.Prior to the start of his legal career, Stan served in the U.S. Navy from 1970 to 1974 as a surface warfare officer aboard ship, chief staff officer of Coastal River Division 22, and officer-in-charge of PTF-17.Specialties: Stan focused his practice on complex litigation, usually involving scientific, technical or medical issues, including products liability, professional liability, environmental, insurance and health care law. Currently, Stan's continues to provide pro bono and mentoring services, including representing immigrants in asylum cases; obtaining Hep C treatment for Kansas Medicaid Enrollees on behalf of the ACLU; and obtaining a similar settlement for inmates in Kansas prisons.
